Playing your Bigger Game – what does that even mean?
I recently told you about how I fell in love with a model for how to play big in work and life. So here’s a series of posts to help you get started, and possibly you will fall in love too.
What is the Bigger Game? How do you get on the board game and actually play?
Have you had a great idea? And shared it with your friends or colleagues? Then had the most amazing conversation?
Feels fantastic, doesn’t it?
I love sharing dreams and wild ideas, seeing what creates energy in me and those around me. Seeing the possibilities. Feeling the joy that the “wouldn’t it be great if….” conversations bring.
But then what happens next?
Often, we don’t know where to start. So we think about that, and maybe things start to fizzle.
And we’ve seen quotes like:
Chaotic action is preferable to orderly inaction – Will Rogers
and we sagely agree. And then, nothing. But when we don’t act, then we are not in a Bigger Game, we are having great conversations. While great conversations are important – keep having them! – sometimes we need more.
Sometimes the boldest, most courageous, thing that we can do, is to do something.
When I first read Play Your Bigger Game I felt a hunger for more of this kind of conversation in my life. So I talked to others about it, then I took a Bold Action and spoke to Rick about my idea.
And then I started a series of bold actions to progress the game to where we are now.
Bold Action puts your game in play
This square is at the center of the board, because playing your bigger game will, sooner or later, require a bold move. When you reach that point, whether you’re ready or not, this is where you go to make the leap.
