Be Kind To Yourself And Keep Going

by | Nov 21, 2019 | Coaching Tips Series

This post is part of my special Coaching Tips Series. This series was inspired by my clients and the core themes in their challenges. When we can apply these tips, we bring a lot of ease into our lives and step into our leadership.

Recently I did a thought piece on the secret to getting into action using an example of stepping stones across a stream in my neighbourhood.

At the core was this: Sometimes we forget that our bodies know what to do. They just need clear instructions.
And the clear instruction your body needs for getting into action is this: go for it like you know you’re going to make it.

Well, I did my “scary thing” again, and I have some lessons for you in this video that I made straight after doing my daring, scary thing.

What’s not in the video is this: your body also remembers. It remembers what you felt when you did something before. And sometimes that’s not a good thing (watch the video to see what I mean).

So the coaching tip from all of this is:

Be kind to yourself – appreciate where you are, and forget about where you think you should be.
Keep doing it, it will get easier.

Hi. So I wrote this post about taking this little trip across these stepping stones in the water. I’ve just done it again today, and I’ve just got to tell you – when I got to that middle stone, can you see it? That really tiny little stone. I got as scared as I was the first time I did this.

I look at it, and I just think – it’s a tiny, teeny thing, but when you’re on it, I don’t know, for some people, this is just a walk in the park. For me it’s a real challenge just to go and risk falling in the water, smashing my knees against the rocks, just failing completely.

I just want to be upfront, sometimes we just keep doing these things and it’s scary every single time that we do it. That’s ok, it’s still using the same process.

One thing that was different today I didn’t stand on that little stone for as long as I did the first time.  This time I was on there thinking “Holy crap! I am still scared, I thought it would be easier, but it’s not.” And then I jumped.

So things that you do, that you really want to achieve and that scare you, keep doing them.  I can’t promise that the fear will go away, but it gets easier.

Let me know how these tips work out for you. And share your own tips with me, I love to share the learning.
