The Productive Procrastination Method

by | May 4, 2021 | Coaching Tips Series

This week I’m sharing my fantastic, I made it myself, life hack as the kids say.
The Productive Procrastination Method. (patent pending!)

What is your Productive Procrastination Method?

I hear you ask.
It’s a method to get you tackling your toughest challenges with ease.

When do you use it? or The Problem
When you have a big/complex/difficult task to do, and you don’t think you can do it or it feels too hard.
So…. you end up filling your time with emails, fiddling with those slides, or Netflix.

Solution
You do a series of smaller, important (but maybe not urgent) tasks.

Why this works

Doing a series of smaller, important tasks will give you

  • sense of achievement and a reminder “oh yeah, I CAN do things” (dopamine and some serotonin, cha-ching!)
  • clear desk and headspace so you are at optimal brain power for the big hairy task
  • psych yourself up for the big challenge

It’s kind of like doing a warm up before going for a run or lifting a heavy weight. It gets you ready AND you get important shit done.

I use this a lot. And the funny things is, the more I use it, the less time I need to spend doing the Productive Procrastination Method, and the faster I get started on those Big Hairy Tasks.

No more last minute cramming. All the good feels and highs of getting shit done.
