 Around this time of year, from when the first stirrings of spring appear, I get an increase in requests for coaching.

I used to expect this in January – when people are looking to start their year strong, may have made some resolutions etc.

Yet this makes sense. After the holidays we are often tired (and happy tired I hope). And then the year starts with a bang. We’ve got to wrap up the previous year AND dive straight into making this year happen – with some varying quantity of admin and reporting thrown in.

So it’s only once we are well and truly into the year that we get a bit of breathing space. To think “what am I actually doing?” and “do I like it?”

many of you already have an idea of what your next step is.

But what if it doesn’t work out?

What if the risk is to great?
What if…..?

Now it’s time for you to take a leap. To jump off that perch that is so familiar.

 So here’s a tip about how to feel the fear and do it anyway.

 There’s something you really want to do. But you’re afraid, and rightly so. It’s big, it’s new and it’s outside your comfort zone.

 But it’s exciting and you want to do it.

 And you’ve seen the memes and positive thinking quotes that tell you to feel the fear and do it anyway. But no one tells you how to actually do that.

 Here are 3 tools to help you feel the fear and do it anyway. 

  1. Express the emotion
  2. Focus on the benefit
  3. Snap out of fear mode 

Express the emotion

 Emotion is energy in motion. When you suppress them, they build up and grow.  A very productive way of expressing your emotions is to name them and what you want to do.

 Like when I told my filmmaker I was scared to make these videos and wanted to delay the shoot.

 By expressing emotions, you release the energy. You’ll still be afraid but it won’t have such a strong hold on you.

 Focus on the benefit

 If you are going to be afraid, then there should be a really good reason. So focus on the benefit of doing this scary thing.  

 Snap out of the fear mode

 When you are afraid, your brain goes into survivor mode. You need to shift back into a positive frame of mind. This 3 step technique will help you snap out of negativity

 Observe – I don’t think I can do this

Name it – that’s my inner critic and fear talking

Meditate – Focus all your attention on your breathing for 10 seconds

These 3 tools help you to feel the fear but do it anyway.
