Now usually the stories that get the big headlines are the epic journeys like “man who was paralysed runs marathon”. These are truly epic.
I’m the kind of person that thinks stories like this are also epic:
“Woman takes care of her kinds and helps them grow up to be good people, rebuilds her career to create a ripple effect of magical goodness, and thoroughly enjoys her life”. * cough cough there might be a bit of me in that example cough *
All the stories matter. And all the things we fight for have value. Dare I say that the only thing that matters is: does it have meaning for you?
Or as Simon Sink would say: find your why.
Recently a client looked at me and said, “I already know all this. I just haven’t thought about it for months”
Yes, exactly. We can be fighting the good fight and sometimes things happen that push us off course. We had a great plan then Bam! Shit explodes and we get disoriented.
We get a bit side tracked from that thing we know is worth fighting for.
That’s what I’m fighting for through my work: everyone getting to live the life of meaning that is right for them, and bring some humanity back into the workplace. Enough of these toxic teams where people get away with being assholes.
How does that work in the coaching process?
This can be phase one of the coaching: to have a plan again. Figuring out what exactly does it look like to be a good leader; have a balanced work and home life; to live out your adventures etc.
Then usually we move onto phase two: make the plan an awesome reality, even better than you imagined.
For some it can also be the whole coaching: once you’ve found the plan again, and you’ve found your feet, created balance, and know how to get back on track, you might be ready to go off on your own again. End of coaching.
What’s your plan? What kind of life are you fighting for? Have you lost track?
Let’s get you back on track.
