This One Thing Makes The Most Difference For Leaders And Managers

I know this title sounds a bit clickbaity yet I have found it to be true on so many occasions, in so many areas of my life.

You will get further in your life and in your career if you learn what to stop doing.

There, I’ve put it right at the top. It’s not hidden away in a pages long article with a ton of ads all the way through it.

To get ahead, learn what to stop doing.
It will free up so much time and energy that you will actually do the things you need to do.

And another secret? You actually already know what to do. It’s just that your time is full of stuff you need to stop doing. All that stuff you need to stop? It’s making you tired, unfocused, and worst of all, “too busy” to do things that actually matter, the things that will actually make a difference.

Here’s a quote from Peter Drucker:

โ€œWe spend a lot of time helping leaders learn what to do, we donโ€™t spend enough time helping leaders learn what to stopโ€

There is a culture of learn more, more, more. But where are we getting to with all the things we have learned? Often, we donโ€™t get to where we want to be.

So maybe right now you don’t need to go and learn a new thing, or start a new routine. Maybe you just need to cut your “things to do” by half.

This is one of my favourite things to help people with when coaching: what can you stop doing?

How would your life be different if you could cut your work in half?
