For so long I thought I didn’t like embroidery.
I thought I should start with cross stitch, it’s easier.
And I never got far. So I thought it wasn’t my thing.
Then I gave it another go and I realised that actually I just find it boring AF to follow a pattern and do all that counting.
So I thought I’d take a leap and do free hand embroidery and the first pic is the first piece I ever completed, just a few months ago.
Pretty amazing for a first go, even if I say so myself.
And I realise that I just wasn’t aiming high enough.
If you’ve read this far, thanks. And listen up:
The problem is NOT that you’re not good enough.
The problem is you’re not aiming high enough.
Yes the word leader might give you the ick.
But once you get over it, and you actually aim higher than you think you can do, you’ll find that you’re actually good at it.
Take a look at the second pic. My second ever free hand embroidery piece. It’s a Kandinsky in thread.
Just aim higher.
It’s so much more enjoyable too.
This is part of my Thought Piece Series, where I explore topics related to leadership and provide both answers and questions. My intention is to start meaningful conversations that help us move forward. Want to connect? Click here.
