Purpose Driven
I always struggled to connect to the Philips corporate purpose when I worked for them. I didn’t object to it, I just didn’t connect with it, so I didn’t really think about purpose that much.
Since my coach training, purpose has been a big thing in my life, helping me navigate decisions big and small, and helping me get into flow. I wish I’d connected to the concept sooner.
So how to companies foster being purpose driven when, to be honest, most of us don’t really connect to the company mission or purpose on a personal level?
I want to give a “hats off” to a company I’m doing coaching for, that has figured out a way. (but anonymously due to our confidentiality agreement).
They want to create a culture of being purpose driven, and they’ve done by enabling each leader to develop their own purpose.
Yes they are still working for the company vision and mission. Yes they are still working to deliver the required results. But they get to explore and define their own Purpose, and use that to help them deliver.
The hardest part in all of this, is actually defining our own purpose.
And that’s where I come in. Again this morning, in a single coaching session, I helped another leader discover and articulate their purpose, one that excites them and inspires ideas of how to put this into practice in the real world.
I love being able to bring ease to this process for them (my own purpose).
Are you purpose driven?
How did you discover your purpose?
This is part of my Thought Piece Series, where I explore topics related to leadership and provide both answers and questions. My intention is to start meaningful conversations that help us move forward. Want to connect? Click here.
